Vihren Peak

Vihren is the summit of the Pirin range and, at 2,914 metres, Bulgaria's second and the Balkans' third highest peak, after Musala and Mount Olympus. The mountain is made of marble and limestone, so the peak itself has no lakes or streams, but many of Pirin's glacial lakes lie around it, as does the Snezhnika glacieret, the southernmost glacial mass in Europe.

The usual route starts from Vihren hut above Bansko. The peak lies inside Pirin National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
