About the province
Targovishte at a Glance
Targovishte Province is in north-eastern Bulgaria. Its capital, Targovishte, lies at the northern foot of the low Preslav mountain on both banks of the Vrana River, about 335 km north-east of Sofia and 125 km west of Varna. It is known as an old market settlement.
Targovishte has a substantial glass industry, alongside manufacturing and agriculture. Popovo and Omurtag are the other main towns, and the medieval fortress of Misionis and the Slaveykov school are among the local landmarks.
