About Rozhen Monastery
The Rozhen Monastery of the Nativity of the Mother of God is the biggest monastery in the Pirin Mountains and one of the few medieval Bulgarian monasteries preserved until today. It stands among the sandstone formations of the Melnik Earth Pyramids, about 6 km from Melnik.
The present buildings date mostly from the 18th and 19th centuries, with wall paintings, carved wooden iconostases and stained glass. A walking path links it with Melnik.
