Haskovo at a Glance
Haskovo Province lies in south-eastern Bulgaria, bordering Greece and Turkey, and covers part of the Thracian valley along the Maritsa river. It has 11 municipalities. The capital, Haskovo, is one of Bulgaria's larger cities and has a history going back to around 5000 BC.
The province sits on the main transport corridor between Bulgaria and Turkey, including the Maritsa motorway and the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing. Its economy mixes manufacturing, trade and agriculture. Dimitrovgrad and Harmanli are other important towns, and the Eastern Rhodopes in the south offer Thracian sites and the Studen Kladenets and Ivaylovgrad reservoirs.
