Welcome to Bulgaria

Why I believe Bulgaria is one of the best places in Europe to invest today, and how InvestBulgaria can help you get started.

Dear visitor,

Welcome to Bulgaria, and welcome to InvestBulgaria.

I started InvestBulgaria in 2004 to give foreign investors something that was hard to find at the time: clear, practical information about doing business in Bulgaria, in English. More than twenty years later, the country has changed almost beyond recognition, and the case for investing here is stronger than ever.

Bulgaria joined the European Union in 2007, the Schengen area in 2025 and the euro area on 1 January 2026. For investors, that means one currency, open borders and EU rules, in a country where prices and labour costs are the lowest in the EU.

The fundamentals are hard to match. There is a flat 10% tax on company profits and personal income, the second-lowest corporate rate in the EU. The workforce is educated, with strong IT and engineering skills and graduates from more than forty universities and academies. And the country sits at the crossroads of Central Europe, Turkey and the Black Sea.

Like any market, Bulgaria has its challenges, and good local knowledge makes a real difference. That is what this site is for. You will find guides on taxes, company formation, property and residency, data on the economy and every region, and a directory of Bulgarian companies that can help you get started. Every figure links to its source and the date we last checked it.

Thank you for visiting. If you are planning a project in Bulgaria, please get in touch. We will gladly point you to the right people, and we will go the extra mile to help turn your plans into a success story.
