About Seven Altars Monastery
The Seven Altars, officially the Monastery of the Most Holy Mother of God, is an Orthodox monastery in the western Balkan Mountains, on the border of Sofia and Vratsa provinces. It lies in the valley of the Gabrovnitsa river, on the road from Eliseyna in the Iskar gorge to the village of Osenovlag.
Its church is unusual in having seven altars, from which the monastery takes its name. The surrounding forest and the river make it a popular stop for walkers.
