About Musala Peak
Musala is the highest peak in the Rila Mountains, in Bulgaria and in the whole Balkan Peninsula, at 2,925 metres. It is also one of the most prominent peaks in mainland Europe. The name comes through Ottoman Turkish from an Arabic word meaning "a place for prayer".
The usual route starts from the Borovets resort, using the Yastrebets gondola, and passes the Musala lakes and hut. A weather station stands on the summit.
