About Samokov History Museum and Convent

The History Museum in Samokov was founded in 1930 at the idea of local painters. Its displays cover the town's iron working, crafts and trade, and the Samokov school of icon painting and woodcarving, one of the most important of the National Revival, whose best-known master was Zahari Zograf.

The Samokov Convent of the Protection of the Virgin is a women's monastery in the centre of the town, with a church of 1839 and houses around a courtyard.
