About Etropole: History Museum, Clock Tower and Holy Trinity Monastery
The Etropole Monastery of the Holy Trinity, also called Varovitets, was founded in the 12th or 13th century. From the 16th to the 18th century its scriptorium made it the leading literary centre of northern Bulgaria under Ottoman rule.
The clock tower in Etropole was built in 1710 as a defence tower and became a clock tower in 1821; it is 20 metres high and still keeps time. The History Museum, with its branch in the Arnaudova House, presents the town's heritage.
