About Skakavitsa Hut and the Seven Rila Lakes

The Seven Rila Lakes are glacial lakes in the north-western Rila Mountains, between 2,100 and 2,500 metres. They are the most visited lakes in Bulgaria, and each has a name linked to its shape or character, from the highest, the Tear, to the lowest, the Lower Lake.

Skakavitsa hut, built in 1921–1922 by tourists from Dupnitsa, was the first mountain hut in Bulgaria. It stands at 1,876 metres near the Skakavitsa waterfall.
