About Rhodope Karst Museum and Rozhen Observatory
The Museum of the Rhodope Karst in Chepelare was founded in 1980 on the basis of a cave collection started by the teacher Dimitar Raychev. It shows how caves form, with minerals, cave formations and finds from Rhodope caves.
The National Astronomical Observatory at Rozhen, 15 km from Chepelare, belongs to the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and has the largest telescope in south-east Europe, with a 2-metre mirror.
