About Poda Nature Conservation Centre
Poda was declared a protected area in 1989 and was the first protected area in Bulgaria managed entirely by a non-governmental organisation, the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds. It lies between the Black Sea and Lake Mandra, on the main road south of Burgas.
The wetland is home to more than 260 bird species, including spoonbills, herons and pelicans. The visitor centre has an observation room, and a trail runs around the site.
