About Balchik Palace

The Balchik Palace was built as the summer residence of Queen Marie of Romania when Southern Dobruja was part of Romania. Construction began around 1924 and ended in 1937, and the queen named it the Quiet Nest.

The style mixes Bulgarian, Romanian and Ottoman motifs, with a minaret-like tower on the shore. Around it are villas, a small chapel, a wine cellar, a water mill and terraced gardens that step down to the sea.
