About Okolchitsa Peak
Okolchitsa is the highest peak of the Vratsa mountains, in the western Balkan range. On 2 June 1876 the band of the poet and revolutionary Hristo Botev fought its last battle here, and Botev was killed nearby.
A tall memorial cross stands on the summit, and every year on 2 June Bulgaria remembers Botev and those who died for the country. The usual climb starts from the village of Chelopek.
