About Kaleto Archaeological Complex, Mezdra

The Kaleto archaeological complex stands on a high rocky ridge at the south-western edge of Mezdra, above the left bank of the Iskar river. Excavations have found traces of settlement from the Copper Age through Thracian, Roman and medieval times.

The site has been restored as an open-air complex with fortress walls, a museum display and views over the Iskar gorge.
