About Underground Mining Museum, Pernik
The Mining Museum in Pernik was created in 1986 inside an underground gallery where brown coal was mined between 1891 and 1966. It is the only museum of its kind in the Balkans.
Visitors walk through the tunnels and see the tools, machines and working conditions of the miners. Pernik grew as Bulgaria's main coal town in the 20th century.
