About Sboryanovo Reserve: Helis, Demir Baba Tekke and Isperih Museum
The Sboryanovo historical and archaeological reserve lies 10 km from Isperih, near the village of Sveshtari. It holds more than 140 monuments: settlements, sanctuaries and burial mounds of the Thracians, Christian Bulgarians and heterodox Muslims. At its centre is Helis, a fortified Thracian town on a bend of the river, thought to be the capital of the Getae.
Demir Baba Tekke is a 16th-century Alevi tomb of local sandstone, still visited by Muslims and Christians alike. The Thracian Tomb of Sveshtari in the reserve is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
