About Chiprovtsi History Museum and Monastery
The Chiprovtsi Monastery lies 5 km north-east of the town in the valley of the Ogosta river. According to tradition it was built in the 10th century, and it survived many raids and burnings over the centuries.
The History Museum on the central square tells the story of Chiprovtsi, a centre of goldsmiths and Catholic merchants, and of the Chiprovtsi Uprising of 1688. The town is best known for its woven carpets.
