Über Nationaler Park-Museum Shipka und Freiheitsdenkmal
Das Freiheitsdenkmal auf dem Gipfel Shipka ist das Herzstück des Nationalen Park-Museums Shipka-Buzludzha im Balkangebirge. Es erinnert an die Kämpfe um den Shipka-Pass 1877, als russische Soldaten und bulgarische Freiwillige den Pass gegen das osmanische Heer hielten.
Das Denkmal gleicht einem mittelalterlichen Festungsturm, ist 31,5 Meter hoch und über 890 Stufen zu erreichen. Es wurde mit Spenden aus ganz Bulgarien erbaut und am 26. August 1934 eingeweiht. Von oben blickt man über das Rosental und den Balkan-Hauptkamm.
