”We have to complete the second and third stage of the Largo construction in the frames of 200 days,” said Eng. Rosen Koleliev, manager of a firm from the construction sector, speaking for FOCUS News Agency.

”This is a project which entered the stage of construction with difficulty. It is envisaged there will be a zone for displaying archaeological [findings], a zone where dismounted archaeological structures will be exhibited, a space for stage activity, zones for collections,” Eng. Koleliev stated.

”We hope this space will really turn into one of downtown Sofia symbols. The existing underpasses in the space between the central underpass and the Church of St Petka of the Saddlers in the south and the northern hallway of the metro station will be integrated,” the expert commented further.

He specified the total area the project would cover amounted to 7,000 square metres.

”We hope [Sofia] centre will become a place to see archaeological findings as well as a place where Sofia resident prefer having a rest and attending cultural events. Of course, many things have not been strictly determined and will undergo some development in the construction process,” Rosen Koleliev remarked.

The Largo is an architectural ensemble of three Socialist Classicism edifices in central Sofia designed and built in the middle of the 20th century with the intention to become the city's new representative centre. Today it is considered one of the main landmarks of Sofia.
