Bankya ist eine Kleinstadt am Stadtrand von Sofia und gehört verwaltungsmäßig zur Hauptstadt. Sie liegt 17 km westlich des Stadtzentrums am Fuß des Lyulin-Gebirges auf etwa 630–750 m Höhe.
Bankya ist berühmt für seine Mineralquellen und Bäder, die seit Hunderten von Jahren zur medizinischen Behandlung genutzt werden. Der Ort wurde 1969 zur Stadt und 1979 Teil von Sofia.
