The name Esha is derived from the first letters of Smid & Hollander, which was founded in 1927. Since 2001 the company became part of the Greek multinational Alfa Alfa trading and is Alfa Alfa Energy in Athens majority holder of the Esha shares. Both companies are listed on the Stock Exchange in Athens. The name "Esha" evolved from the names of the companies and the product names.
The Esha group produces and sells products for road-building, roofing and insulation. Esha is the market leader in the Netherlands and has production companies, including a refinery and tank storage in Amsterdam, a bitumen tanker and an advanced Research & Development Centre in Groningen. The Esha group has over 900 employees, with companies and sales offices in the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, United Kingdom, Norway, Portugal, Greece and Bulgaria. Further, Esha products are distributed in several other countries, including Sweden, Finland, the Baltic States, Poland, the Czech Republic, Spain, Southern Asia, the United States of America and Canada. As well as manufacturing and sales of road-building, roofing and insulation products, Esha has contracting companies in the Netherlands, Germany, Norway and Australia for the installation of these products.
