The Bulgarian Stock Exchange's main index rose 3.55% on 22 October to 1,676.74 points, its fifth consecutive day of gains.

The main index of the Bulgarian Stock Exchange, SOFIX, rose by 3.55% on Thursday 22 October to 1,676.74 points, its fifth consecutive session of gains, Investor.bg reported. Over the five sessions the index added a total of 11%.

Among the 15 companies in the index, the strongest gains on the day were recorded by Eurohold Bulgaria, whose shares rose 13.69% to EUR 1.91, Chimimport, up 7.14% to EUR 0.675, and Sopharma, up 3.9% to EUR 3.20.

The largest declines among SOFIX components were in Elana Agrocredit, down 0.99% to EUR 0.50, Wiser Technology, down 0.6% to EUR 1.66, and the Bulgarian Stock Exchange itself, down 0.53% to EUR 7.50.

The broader indices also moved higher. BGBX40 gained 2.5%, the small and mid-cap index beamX rose 1.89% and the equal-weighted BGTR30 added 1.06%. The real estate investment trust index BGREIT was up only 0.16%.

Turnover on the exchange reached EUR 2.8 million on Thursday. It was formed mainly by trading in shares of Ekip-98 Holding (EUR 595,000), Industry Development Holding (EUR 538,000), Republika Holding (EUR 494,000), Chimimport (EUR 246,000) and Eurohold Bulgaria (EUR 144,000). The largest number of trades was in Chimimport with 95, followed by Sopharma with 79, Eurohold Bulgaria with 61, First Investment Bank with 39 and Shelly Group with 38.

The figures show that Bulgaria's equity market remains small, with daily turnover measured in single-digit millions of euros and a handful of names accounting for much of the activity. That also means sharp moves in a few heavily traded stocks can lift the main index quickly.

For investors, the rally is a reminder that liquidity on the Sofia exchange is concentrated, and that price moves in individual holdings can be large over a short period. Investor.bg noted that its market reports are for information only and are not a recommendation to buy or sell securities.
