The National Statistical Institute (NSI) registered inflation in the manufacturing industry of 9 % on an annual basis in July. This is the largest increase in the index since the beginning of 2009 when NSI implemented a new methodology for its calculations. The main reasons for the jump in the index are the rise of 15.1% in the extractive industry, the growth of 12.5% in manufacture and the distribution of electric and heat power, as well as the 6.9% increase in the processing industry.

For a year, the most significant increase was observed in the manufacturing prices of basic metals - 34.7%, of tobacco products - 8.2% and in the leather industry - 5.4%. For the same period, statistics reported a decline of 6.3% in the production cost of items made from other non-metallic mineral raw materials and of 4.4% in the woodworking industry, as well as a 2% decline in the food sector. On a monthly basis, inflation in manufacture rose by 2.3%.

NSI statistics showed that in July a considerable increase of 10.8% in the prices of the generation of electric and heat power and gas was recorded. A decline in prices, albeit minimal, was reported in the extractive industry - 0.7% and 0.9% in the manufacturing industry. As regards the processing sector, a more significant reduction in prices month-on-month was registered for tobacco products - 9.3% and in the manufacture of basic metals - 6.0%, as well as in the machinery industry. There was also a price increase in the repair and installation of machinery and equipment - 1.2% and in the manufacture of metal products (machinery and equipment excluded) - 0.9%.
