PERO Publishing is one of the first publishing companies in Bulgaria established after beginning of the democratic changes in 1989. It was founded in 1990 by the literary critic, translator and publisher Svetlozar Zhekov. Its establishment is marked by the launch of the elite and innovative for that time magazine for literature and art "Pero", which unfortunately, due to financial restraints was only published in two issues. Nevertheless the magazine has provided the name to the publishing house, which since its very appearance on the book market has declared firm and undeviating aesthetic credo in the high literary values both in the elite and popular literature - a credo that PERO is still following nowadays.
For more than ten years now, PERO Publishing has been a mark of new quality in publishing – not only in the selection of published works, but also in the innovative design and polygraphic decisions. Scores of titles were published during this period, part of which became real bestsellers. The series of original phrasebooks covering the six most spoken European languages bear the palm with a total turnover of 1 000 000 copies and with a continuous demand on the Bulgarian book market. The bestselling phrase books are followed by the series "Sova" with a great success among the popular readings. It introduces into the national market the bestsellers of world famous authors such as Sidney Sheldon, Robert Ludlum, Sara Paretski etc.
